Susan Staples Bell
Through story-driven repertoire, flexible ensembles, and creativity-focused teaching resources, I create practical materials that build strong technique while developing improvisation, expressive playing, harmonic understanding, and musical confidence. Each resource is designed to fit naturally into real lessons and motivate students to practice with purpose.
Making Lessons Musical, Creative, and Deeply Engaging — Without Adding More to a Teacher’s Workload
Hi, I'm Susan Staples Bell, a composer, educator, and studio teacher passionate about helping piano teachers move beyond “just getting through the book” and into lessons that truly engage students musically, creatively, and emotionally.
I hold degrees in Music Education and Music Composition and am an active member of MTNA, NFMC, NACUSA, and ASCAP. Based in Texas, I continue teaching regularly so my materials stay practical, flexible, and grounded in real studio experience — not just theory.
I create story-driven piano repertoire, flexible ensembles, and creativity-focused teaching resources designed to help teachers build strong technique while also developing improvisation, harmonic understanding, expressive playing, and musical confidence. My goal is simple: give teachers music and materials they can use immediately — resources that feel natural in real lessons and genuinely motivate students to practice.
Every piece I write is shaped by what actually works in the studio. As an active teacher, I test ideas with real students first, refining each resource so it supports clear technical progress while encouraging imagination, listening skills, and personal musical connection. The result is repertoire that students enjoy playing and teachers feel confident assigning.
Teachers who use my music often notice:
Engaging, story-driven music motivates students to practice more regularly.
Students learn phrasing, tone, and musicality from the very beginning.
Collaborative pieces strengthen rhythm, listening, and ensemble awareness.
Students build strong skills while gaining confidence in their playing.
Our Values
We firmly uphold the following fundamental principles:
Students develop expression, tone, and musical connection from the start.
Studio-tested resources that fit naturally into everyday lessons.
Story and imagination support deeper learning and stronger musicianship.
Step-by-step growth builds both skill and lasting confidence.
