Angels We Have Heard on High, Piano Solo Arrangement, Early Intermediate, from Lead Sheets
Short & Sweet! Folks love to sing along with this one, so if you need to, feel free to repeat from the beginning. Use the last 4 measures as an optional Introduction or transition between repeats.
This arrangement is inspired by my Method Book - 20 Favorite Christmas Songs: How to Play Lead Sheets. In the book, I use this carol to teach about playing a Left hand pattern repeated, staccato quarter notes in Root position or inversions. Also, to introduce the concept of “Sus” chords: Suspended 4th chords, which are used a lot in Praise band music. This is also a great arrangement to practice playing a Legato Right hand, vs. a Staccato Left hand.
Teaching Suggestion: Try transposing this piece to G Major! it would be a great opportunity to discover the chords, but it’s a little easier since you can depend on the finger memory a good bit to get you through it - just practice your G Major scale first to know there’s no B flats anymore - make sure to watch for F#s!
Key: F Major
Time signature: 4/4. BPM = 144. But notice the tempo changes, which make for a fun arrangement!
Skill development: Left hand pattern as taught in my Method Book - 20 Favorite Christmas Songs: How to Play Lead Sheets. Study this arrangement to see how many other patterns I use, as well as: identify the chord symbols, what other chord tones are included? Legato vs. Staccato: not always so easy to do! Left hand repeated quarter notes quickly move positions!
Level: Early Intermediate
How long: 21 - 24 with optional repeat, measures. 1 Page. 1:00 minute performance time.
This is a Single License: One purchase - One copy. Thank for honoring the composer’s work by not sharing with anyone. Encourage them to purchase their own copy please!
