Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, Piano Solo, Intermediate
“Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” is set to the much-loved Welsh tune, “Hyfrydol” by Rowland H. Prichard. It’s perfect for the Liturgical time of Advent, as the Church prepares for the arrival of the Christ child, but also anytime the Hyfrydol tune is needed. In the text by Charles Wesley: he states, “hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.”
Advent. Preparation. Waiting. Waiting is something we have all experienced. Waiting to grow up. Waiting to get married. Waiting to find the right job. Waiting to …… find joy & peace.
This piece incorporates those moments of “waiting”… as “We wait in joyous expectation”. Notice several measures where phrases with “ritardando” that leave us a little time to ponder, then gives way to “a tempo”, which brings a sense of longing and anticipation. The piece is in the key of Ab Major, just as the original was in 1830. It begins joyously with the first statement of the melody appearing in the left hand, then in the second statement, moves to the right hand for a more gentle, slightly syncopated version. Easily accessible for the Intermediate pianist.
Piano Solo is the Perfect choice for Piano recital or Worship service. Performance time 02:15. Cover + 3 Pages.
