Cross Your Fingers! Some Ragtime Fun
Cross Your Fingers! Some Ragtime Fun (3 Pages)
Ragtime is such happy music! Here is a simple piece that’s sure to bring a smile! “Cross Your Fingers!” gives the student lots of opportunities to practice “crossing” their fingers- as seen in the semi-chromatic motif beginning in measure one. Look for the accented syncopated rhythms and easy Left Hand “stride” that bring out the Ragtime characteristics.
Written in the key of C Major in “A-B-A” form. The “crossing finger motif” appears throughout the piece, which asks the Right Hand to move positions a bit- but it’s totally pattern based. Left Hand stays in Bass C position throughout. Written with Quarter, Half, and Whole notes to ensure easy reading for Elementary level students. Optional repeat if you’re just having too much fun!
