Frost on My Window, Late Elementary
Are you looking for something quiet & reflective? Something to work on their Artistic technique. While the music notation is fairly simple, this piece is designed to help the student explore the beauty of expressive playing.
Winter is here. Are you stuck inside, looking at the snowy landscape through a window, encased in ice? Maybe you’re dreaming of sunny days. Maybe you’re contemplating long ago memories…. FROST on My Window describes these emotions. Will does it make you feel?
Written in the key of A minor in “A-B-A” form. The “A” section features a flowing melody in the Right hand and ends with a cross hand A minor arpeggio. Left hand explores open 5ths in their broken form. For a contrasting “B” section, the melody is more mindful, not moving as much. The Left hand supports with blocked, chant-like 5ths. “A” brings comfort with its return, but leaves us to ponder on what could have been.
