At the Gym, A Collection of Creative Warm Ups for Ensembles
At the Gym is collection of 10 short pieces to be used as creative Warm Up Exercises for Ensembles, group lessons or even a private student with teacher. The Collection is meant to be easily attainable in a short amount of time. Even though they are simple, these are much more than "just" exercises! Each piece has 5 parts to focus on different elements of music: Melody, Harmony, Bass line, Counter melody (maybe this gives them ideas for improvisation), and Rhythm (hand percussion). By focusing on 1 Hand at a time, the student is not overwhelmed and can explore the other aspects introduced: Mood, articulations, crescendos, chords, etc. There's a lot of learning packed into this little ebook! (14 pages with C Major & C minor Scale bonus page)
Accessible for the Elementary to Late Elementary Levels- each piece is written in C Major or C minor (with accidentals) and in easy to read C hand positions. Time signatures of 4/4 and 3/4 in various tempos - not eighth notes here. Each one with it’s own mood, it’s not just an exercise!
Each piece is for 1 Hand at a time, divided into five parts:
1. Exercise/focus on Melody or pattern
2. Accompanying chords/focus on Harmony
3. Bass line
4. Counter Melody or pattern
5. Additional Hand Percussion/focus on Rhythm
FREE BACKING TRACKS are available. Download yours here.

Introduce each part to all students
Play in unison until secure.
Assign different parts to different students to create ensemble.
Repeat as many times as you like.
Let students select a part, play, then guess which part they played.
Try 1 student on 1 piano to develop independence or try 2, 3, or 4 students on the same piano for fun!
Try parts in different octave than written- part 1 on the lowest bass keys, why not? Be creative!
