Jolly Ol' St. Nicholas, Elementary - Late Elementary, Inspired by my Lead Sheet Method Book
Jolly Ol’ St. Nicholas
Short & Sweet! Folks love to sing along with this one, so if you need to, feel free to repeat from the beginning. Use the last 4 measures as an optional Introduction or transition between repeats.
This arrangement is inspired by my Method Book - 20 Favorite Christmas Songs: How to Play Lead Sheets. This one is a great finger workout! Introducing Open 5th that move position every measure. Use the pedal to make the hand movement sound more smooth. Right hand is easy so focus on the Left hand here.
Bonus - Practice moving Left hand between positions. Can you do this smoothly and quickly? This is a great skill to know.
Teaching Suggestion: What other patterns might work well with this melody? Maybe start with whole notes or half notes, or broken triads! Encourage your student to brainstorm possibilities.
