The duet begins with The Chase Is On—fast and intense—with the melodic spotlight on Secondo while Primo anchors the energy through driving triplet ostinatos. It then transitions seamlessly into Secrets in the Shadows, where the Primo part takes on a sparkling, expressive melody floating above the darker undercurrent of Secondo. The final section, Night Flight, brings the journey to a bold and dramatic close, delivering a powerful ending worthy of an epic Medieval tale.
This duet was commissioned by the Odessa MTA and performed in the 2025 TMTA Convention.
Each section offers contrasting textures and roles, giving both players moments to shine while strengthening ensemble awareness, rhythmic precision, and expressive storytelling. This dramatic duet works beautifully as a recital showpiece and is especially engaging for students who enjoy music with a strong narrative arc.
