Quiet Moments with You, Early Intermediate Solo + Improvisation Study
Inspired by improvisation- Quiet Moments with You is a reflective piece using minimal chord progressions- giving space for the Right hand melody to wander and explore. Isn’t that the way of life? As humans, we make plans to create our life path; yet events happen and then we are forced to improvise. And sometimes, in those moments, something wonderful happens. Perhaps a new beginning? Maybe Something beautiful.
This piece began life as an improvisation study for my student in the style of Erik Satie. I would love for you try it too, you only need the first 4 bars.
This Improvisation Study will take you through the steps of learning to improvise: 1. Establish some chords for the Left Hand to serve as a foundation. 2. Establish what notes can be used in the Right Hand, then expand from there. This is a great exercise to use with students!
Options- DUET: 1 person plays the Bass clef in 2 hands (Left hand- bass note, Right hand- chord). 1 person explores a melody on all White keys. SOLO: Left hand plays the same notes in Bass clef, but Right explores. Use all White keys (Simple- A minor Pentascale, More advanced- any note is available.) Use scale movements, thirds, and chords, let you imagination flow! Notice throughout the piece there are different Left Hand patterns- use whichever one suits you. Examples provided in the instruction pages.
